I received my new Seestar S30 a couple of weeks ago. First of all, it is smaller than I though it would be. Which is exactly what I was hoping for! My main objective was to have an ultra portable smart telescope I could fit into a backpack or carry on bag. Mission accomplished!

The image quality is excellent and the secondary wide field camera is great for finding the moon or sun when the Seestar can’t seem to find it on its own. It is also very useful for landscape viewing and imaging. Again, it makes finding targets during the day that much easier to find and center in the primary 30 mm camera. To me, this is a powerful new feature addition. Hopefully, ZWO will incorporate the wide field camera to all future Seestar versions.
It basically has the same specs as the S50 but a smaller 30 aperture and a shorter focal length of 150 mm. So now I have a wider field of view to day time scenery mode sessions. Very nice for nature shots and video.
What about Space X Falcon 9 launches?
Again the wide field camera is a game changer for capturing Falcon 9 rocket launches from my back patio. Also, it is very easy to manually track the rocket on its entire trajectory. Watch my first attempt at this below.
Overall, I am very happy with the Seestar S30. I find myself reaching for it more often than I do the S50, though for tighter field imaging and better pixel resolution the S50 is better.
