This new cable management method greatly reduces and or eliminates the USB-C cable from wrapping around the Seestar in equatorial mode.
Having just put my S50 in EQ mode at Star Front, I realized how the issue of cable wrap has become a major problem for the Seestar in a remote environment. The stories and pictures of the usb-c cable becoming entangled with the telescope and causing problems is more evident when using the scope in EQ than when I was using it in Alt/Az mode.
So in sharing this issue with a friend of mine, Denis Martinez of Astroturismo Las Grutas in Argentina, he suggested running the cable up the side of the Seestar to reduce the cable wrap. I immediately set up my S50 in EQ mode next to my desk and used a piece of painters tape to hold the cable on the unit. Then I turned on the Seestar and started to move it around using the on screen joy stick. Suddenly, I realized this might actually work!
The consequences of the cable warping around the Seestar are numerous. Including cable damage, usb port damage and the inability to close the arm when it gets caught under the lens opening.

Here is the solution which I have been working on with Denis. Basically we have moved the cable from the base of the unit to the top of the scope with a cable management clip I got from Amazon. This way the cable can twist without entangling the S50 and causing problems. The cable then must be placed or hung at the height of the top of the Seestar as to not be in the way when the unit is turning while imaging. The video below shows how this works.
Here is my Seestar S50 with new “Carlos Method” cable clip management system installed at Star Front Remote Observatories.
