I captured fantastic images and time lapse video of the lunar eclipse
This past Friday morning is a day that will live with me forever. I was so happy to have witnessed the total lunar eclipse from my back patio here in Miami, FL. It was a clear night and the moon did not disappoint.
Using my Celestron 8SE visual telescope and my Seestar S50 Smart Telescope, I captured this amazing time lapse video of the 4 and half hour event which started at midnight March 13, 2025.
Everyone in Miami was so fortunate that it ended up being a very clear night despite weather forecast which called for some cloud cover. The clouds did finally show up, but right as the lunar eclipse was ending around 4 am. Sadly, I was not able to broadcast with my second telescope from the remote observatory in Texas. There were many clouds and high winds so the observatory roofs stayed shut all night. : (
Here is a list of equipment I used to capture these images:
ZWO Seestar S50 smart telescope
Celestron 8SE visual telescope
Apple MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops
iPhone 15 ProMax

I recorded the whole 4.5 hour eclipse on YouTube Live. Yes, I was up since 11 pm the March 13 until 4 am on the 14th. It was a lot of work, but well worth the effort! Again the weather was outstanding! No clouds and no wind! Clouds and wind are an astronomers worst enemies. Oh, and rain too. But we had non of it for this very special event. You can watch the whole 4.5 hour event on YouTube below. If you fast forward to 1:56:00 the eclipse starts. At 3:20:00 the Moon turns Blood Red! Really amazing!
